18th CENTURY WORKING WOMEN'S CLOTHES

This project was undertaken in my 2nd term of 2nd year. It was a construction project completed away from university within lockdown, meaning all communication with class mates and lecturers took place via Teams.

We were asked to recreate a 18th century work woman's costume inspired by a selected painting source as well as sticking to an autumnal leaf colour scheme. My garment consisted of: stays, a handkerchief, shift, top petticoat, apron, under petticoat and false rump. This was the first compete full scale garment created with the challenge of home learning and research and sourcing materials online. It was a great project for self management, focusing on planning time, overcoming construction challenges and manging my own project in a more independent and self reliant way.
